They propose an emissions trading system that provides permits for emissions in line with a specific global warming target, but allows further emissions on condition that the emitter commits to eliminating the extra carbon afterwards. The authors argue that emitters should be charged for temporarily &#8220;storing&#8221; this carbon in the atmosphere. They show that this would lead to both faster reductions in carbon emissions (decarbonization) and faster application of CO2 removal technologies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div  class=\"tatsu-module
