because of its potential contribution to sea-level rise. This ice plateau prevents the main glacier from disintegrating by slowing down its calving. According to scientists, a total disintegration of the &#8220;<small>&nbsp;<\/small>Apocalypse glacier<small>&nbsp;<\/small>&#8221;&nbsp;would cause sea levels to rise by around 65 centimetres.
