From the industrial revolution to the development of information and communication technologies, from strike action to changes in labor policies, history is rich in events that have influenced the way workers perceive their work and their place in society.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">Since the 60s, the reasons why employees quit have changed considerably in Switzerland and most other industrialized countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">In the 60s and 70s, the most common reasons were often related to working conditions, such as long working hours, low pay and dangerous working environments. The sixties were marked by the emergence of social movements, such as May &#8217;68, which highlighted workers&#8217; rights and contributed to the creation of a legal framework for social protection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">During the 80s and 90s, economic growth led to an increased demand for labor, and workers began to leave their jobs in search of better career opportunities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">At the turn of the millennium, globalization and trade liberalization had a significant impact on working conditions. Companies began to relocate production to countries with very cheap labor, leading to a reduction in employment in industrial sectors and a rise in unemployment.<span style=\"background-color: #ffffff; font-size: 16px; font-family: Raleway, -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;\">. Workers began to feel increased pressure to be more flexible and to work longer hours to meet the demands of international competition. It began with a major loss of jobs in 2020, then generated a form of awareness that led to what we call the Great Resignation, a phenomenon born in the USA, which pushed many employees to leave their jobs, creating a labor shortage in many sectors of activity, such as catering. the hotel and transport industries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><div  class=\"tatsu-module tatsu-inline-text clearfix tatsu-ryIzbb-E2   \" ><style>.tatsu-ryIzbb-E2 .tatsu-inline-text-inner{width: 100%;text-align: left;}@media only screen and (max-width: 767px) {.tatsu-ryIzbb-E2 .tatsu-inline-text-inner{width: 100%;}}<\/style><div class=\"tatsu-inline-text-inner tatsu-align-center\">\n<p>Then last year saw the emergence of a phenomenon that experts believe is a continuation of the Great Resignation: &#8220;Quiet Quitting&#8221;. It&#8217;s not a resignation as such, but rather a motivational resignation, which consists of doing the bare minimum in one&#8217;s job without leaving it.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3><span style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">&nbsp;&#8220;People don&#8217;t excel at work and are content to meet their job description&#8221;.<\/span><\/h3>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">Gallup<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"background-color: #ffffff;\">While some people ended up resigning during the pandemic, other workers may have wanted to see a change in their jobs, but didn&#8217;t get it in the end.<\/span>  Overwork, lack of consideration and a poor work-life balance are some of the main causes leading employees to quiet quitting.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>And for those employees for whom quiet quitting doesn&#8217;t suit them or no longer does, we are now witnessing the emergence of a trend known as &#8220;conscious quitting&#8221;. Employees decide to leave their company or organization because they no longer feel in tune with the company&#8217;s values, or because they consider that it is not having a sufficiently positive impact on the planet or on society in general.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Paul Polman, the former head of Unilever, described this phenomenon as a real time bomb, when he published the results of a survey of 4,000 workers carried out in the USA and the UK earlier this year.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<h3>&#8220;Any CEO who thinks he&#8217;s going to win the war for talent by offering a little more money, a little more working from home and a gym membership is going to be disappointed. While better pay, greater flexibility and greater well-being remain at the heart of employees&#8217; demands, they omit their human dimension, among which many feel a need for meaning and fulfillment. In these troubled times, with wars, pandemics, global warming and a tense social climate, many people, especially young people, have real fears about the future of the world they will inherit. &#8220;What&#8217;s the point of wasting time working for a company that doesn&#8217;t interest me?&#8221;<\/p>\n<h4>A few figures:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 16px; background-color: #ffffff;\">2 out of 3 employees in the UK<\/span> and 3 out of 4 in the USA want to work for a company that has a positive impact on the world.<\/li>\n<li>In the United States and the United Kingdom, nearly two-thirds of employees believe that companies&#8217; efforts to tackle environmental and societal challenges do not go far enough.
