The recent protests by German gymnasts and Norwegian beach handball players in particular have highlighted a major problem: the regulations that define the various sports uniforms fail to take into account the diversity of female bodies, the reality of the rules and the fact that many sportswomen give up sport because of the nude uniforms they are forced to wear. In short, they imply that women should be perfectly thin, perfectly beardless, able-bodied and menstruation-free.
