The world’s first delivery of “green steel” will take place in Sweden. Swedish company Hybrit has succeeded in completely eliminating the use of fossil fuels in steel production, right from the iron ore mining stage. Hybrit is the product of a collaboration between steelmaker SSAB (RESPONSIBLE FOR 10% OF SWEDEN’S CARBON DIOXIDE EMISSIONS AND 7% OF FINLAND’S)the state-owned Vattenfall and the mining company LKAB. Hybrit said it was delivering the steel to truck manufacturer Volvo AB on a trial basis ahead of full commercial production in 2026. Volvo has said it will start producing prototype vehicles and components from this green steel in 2021.
