The consortium’s aim is to create a system for measuring and rating the environmental impact of products throughout their life cycle. Member companies rely on their own in-house sustainability teams and the help of sustainability consultancy Quantis to develop a database of raw materials used in product formulas and packaging, as well as a tool for determining the specific impacts of each product.

The Consortium hopes to launch a footprint and rating prototype by the end of 2022. It will then have to be verified by third parties and tested with consumers before the final version is launched. From then on, the focus will be on increasing the number of product categories listed and individual products.
