For years, experts and politicians have been calling for major changes in the transport sector. While the motivation to favor public transport systems stems largely from the desire to curb climate change, the war in Ukraine provided another reason: by using trains, streetcars and buses, rather than cars, Europeans would reduce their fuel consumption and thus the continent’s dependence on Russian energy imports.
