Some resale platforms have tried to divert designers’ attention to second-hand fashion for their “hauls”, but these companies have also been accused of promoting over-consumption.
Some members of Generation Z may be changing their minds about second-hand culture, and second-hand shopping videos may be on the rise. But with multi-billion-dollar companies like Amazon, Shein, Zara and Boohoo still profiting daily from these sponsored or organic videos, it’s going to be a long road before any real change is seen to reduce fashion’s overproduction, says Fashion Revolution’s Galvin:
“It’s not just about fast fashion, it’s about the way we buy clothes. There’s an awful lot of harmful DNA in the first place that really needs to be corrected. We need to challenge the whole culture of over-consumption.”
