Created with children and the young at heart in mind, Dambo’s multi-site installation is designed as a kind of treasure hunt, inviting visitors to lose themselves in Mandurah’s unique wildlife as they make their way to each troll on a map, while discovering clues to find the sixth, “secret” troll.
“I think it’s really important for the next generation to be connected to nature…. You can’t isolate all humans in a city and expect them to care about the natural world. That’s why I tried to gamify the giants, to appeal to younger people who are so used to discovering the world through a screen.”
Dambo
By knitting together his lifelong passions for storytelling, recycling and exploration, Dambo has created the world he wants to live in: a place where people appreciate nature, do their part to protect it, and aren’t afraid to let their imaginations run wild.
“I want people to want to play and experiment. And for them to realize that they don’t need much to create something big and beautiful. Go out, go around the corner and dive into what’s there, you’ll find a lot of adventure and magic in your own backyard.”
