According to scientists and environmentalists, this is a “unique” opportunity to protect the high seas from exploitation. Described by one of them as the most important ocean protection agreement in four decades, the aim is to agree a legal framework for the protection of international waters, essential to “life as we know it”.

Will Europe’s progress towards greener farming be held back by war?

A coalition of health and beauty brands work to develop environmental labeling for their products

The EcoBeautyScore consortium set up last September by Unilever, L’Oreal, Henkel, LVMH and Natura & Co has now been joined by a number of other major health and beauty companies. This collaboration, which now includes 36 companies, including P&G and Beiersdorf, owner of Nivea and Elastoplast, aims to develop an industrial system for measuring and communicating the environmental impact of products.

Why are the environmental crisis and the war in Ukraine linked?

Ukrainian meteorologist and IPCC member Svitlana Romanko declared after the Russian invasion that “climate change and conflicts have the same roots: fossil fuels”. While 36% of Russia’s revenue comes from oil and gas exports, NGOs are denouncing a “war machine” fueled by fossil fuels. Europe is waking up and wants to get out of this dependency, but will it do so soon enough for Ukraine?
