It is now forbidden to be dropped off by helicopter at the top of the slopes

Helicopter drop-off generates noise, pollution and wildlife disturbance. This practice is now prohibited by a law passed on February 21, after a parenthesis during which amateurs benefited from a legislative amendment to the 1985 Mountain Law. Not only has the law been reinstated, it has even been strengthened, since the ban applies to both passenger disembarkation and embarkation.

Latest IPCC report: the speed of climate change is preventing us from adapting to it

The new report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change concludes that countries are not doing enough to protect themselves against the disasters that will be generated by global warming. Written by 270 researchers from 67 countries, the report is “an atlas of human suffering and a damning indictment of the failure of climate leadership”, said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Switzerland supports the creation of a global organization on plastic pollution

Fifteen countries, including Switzerland, have proposed the creation of a “scientific and political group” to tackle the threat of chemical waste and plastic pollution. This proposal came ahead of discussions currently taking place at the United Nations Environment Assembly in Nairobi with the aim of reaching a global treaty to reduce plastic pollution, which according to a recent report is more dangerous than Covid.

Eradicating “extreme poverty” would increase global emissions by less than 1%.

A study published in Nature Sustainability reveals that lifting hundreds of millions of people out of extreme poverty – those living on less than $1.9 a day – would increase emissions by less than 1%. By way of comparison, a person living in sub-Saharan Africa generates a carbon footprint of 0.6 tonnes of CO2, while that of an American citizen averages 14.5 tonnes per year.
