In Scudellate, you can eat and sleep at the Osteria Manciana, the inn or the Foresteria. Higher up, on the Alpe Caviano, there’s a hut. These are the first structures of Monte Generoso’s “Albergo Diffuso”, which opened its doors in June. A choral project that unites the valley and involves not only owners and managers, but also numerous organizations, such as Mendrisiotto Turismo, the regional development agency, municipalities, patricians and the Canton.
The albergo diffuso, or “scattered hotel” in French, offers rooms scattered here and there in old restored houses in the heart of ancient villages. This revolutionary type of hotel was born in Italy. It has helped to bring dozens of dying villages back to life in an environmentally-friendly way, avoiding the need to build new structures. In line with the trend towards experiential tourism, it allows customers to mingle with the daily life of villagers in authentic settings.
