On April 11, the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN) announced a 19% reduction in the greenhouse gas inventory for the years 1990 to 2020, which was submitted last week to the United Nations Climate Change Secretariat. The reductions to be achieved are enshrined in the CO2 law currently in force. As part of the revision of the law, the Federal Council intends to halve Switzerland’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2030, in order to meet the target set out in the Paris Agreement. Climate protection measures therefore need to be stepped up in all sectors, says the FOEN, particularly in the building and mobility sectors.
