“Exposure to concentrations of fine particles in excess of World Health Organization recommendations has led to 238,000 premature deaths”.

This figure is significantly higher compared to 2019, which deplored 231,000 deaths caused by fine particles. The increase is attributed to the Covid-19 pandemic, which hit hardest those with air pollution-related co-morbidities (cancers, lung disease or type 2 diabetes).

The   most basic solution to combating air pollution is to abandon fossil fuels and replace them with alternative energies such as solar, wind and geothermal power. The switch to electric vehicles and Hydrogen-powered vehicles and the promotion of shared mobility (i.e. car-sharing and public transport) are also solutions for reducing air pollution.
