Watchmaking is not the industry that attracts the most criticism when it comes to sustainability issues, perhaps because of a certain opacity. However, a WWF report published in 2018 highlights more significant social and environmental impacts than you might think. That’s why we’re delighted to see the emergence of circular economy initiatives designed to make the sector more impactful.
At the end of last year, start-up ID Genève presented its first model, Circular 1, made from recycled steel from Reconvilier’s Recycling plant and limited to 300 units. Priced at 3,500 francs, the watches feature the “Circular Swiss Made” label, a reconditioned automatic movement and a bracelet made from grape marc.
