Nearly $370 billion will be allocated to the clean energy and climate package. This is the biggest climate investment in U.S. history, and the biggest victory for the environmental movement since the landmark Clean Air Act. It also comes at a critical time: this summer, the country experienced devastating heatwaves and deadly floods, both of which scientists believe are linked to global warming.

Analyses indicate that this measure would reduce U.S. carbon emissions by 40% by 2030. To achieve President Joe Biden’s goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2030, the Biden administration would have to adopt strict climate regulations and states would have to take action.

Lawmakers said the bill represents a monumental victory and is just the beginning of what’s needed to tackle the climate crisis.
