The IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) tells us that global greenhouse gas emissions must be reduced by 45% by 2030 to meet the commitments of the Paris Agreement. Yet emissions linked to air travel in the European Union and the UK doubled between 1990 and 2016.
A “new balance” is therefore needed between “the importance of a quality international airport, a good economic business climate, and the importance of a better living environment”,
Mark Harbers, Dutch Minister for Infrastructure.
