The Swiss hold the world record for the number of kilometers traveled by train: each inhabitant covers more than 2000 km per year. Switzerland’s rail network is one of the most extensive in Europe, stretching for some 5,300 kilometers. And since Saturday, Switzerland has held the record for the world’s longest passenger train. The Rhaetian Railway’s red train was several hundred meters longer than the previous record holder, set in Belgium in the 1990s, according to a company spokesman. With 150 passengers on board, the train travelled along the Albula railway line, a Unesco World Heritage Site, passing through 22 tunnels and over 48 bridges in this Alpine region.
