The revelations made during the Cash Investigation program are particularly disturbing given that L’Occitane enjoys a reputation as a committed brand and is involved in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Action for Sustainable Derivatives (ASD) and the Responsible Beauty Initiative (RBI). As the show’s editor-in-chief points out, labels are unfortunately not a sufficient guarantee. 

While the company deplores the fact that the documentary doesn’t capture the complexity of the palm oil chain, and the efforts that go into it, the program does have the merit of highlighting the responsibility of companies in all sectors to be fully aware of their supply chain, and to make it virtuous and transparent. 

Not forgetting, of course, the need to curb the over-consumption of palm oil.
