The proliferation of jellyfish in the oceans is a symptom of their degradation

The proliferation of jellyfish, which appeared on Earth before trees 650 million years ago, is not a new phenomenon, but according to aquarist Étienne Bourgouin, “today, species are proliferating in places where this was not the case a few years ago”. The IUCN has unveiled its new red list of animals in need of protection, with the monarch butterfly making its debut.

The new list from the International Union for Conservation of Nature indicates that 41,459 of the 147,517 species listed are threatened with extinction. It also reveals that the tiger population in the wild has increased by 40% since its last assessment in 2015, showing that there are more tigers than previously thought, and that global tiger numbers appear to be stable or increasing.
