Scientists have long predicted that climate disruption will lead to more extreme weather conditions, such as heatwaves, droughts and floods. Human emissions from motor exhausts, forest burning and other activities are warming the planet. The warmer the atmosphere, the more moisture it retains, resulting in more rain. All the places that recently experienced flooding – Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, London, Edinburgh, Tokyo and others – might have experienced heavy summer rains even without the climate crisis, but the deluges would probably not have been as intense.
But there have always been floods and heat waves. What proof is there that man is making them worse? Explanations.
