Rainwater to make snow for ski slopes, closure and conversion of certain industrial sites, windmills to produce clean energy: China is determined to demonstrate its expertise in terms of ecology and sustainable development. We would need to have access to the ecological balance sheet for these games in order to make a judgement on their ecological virtues, because to begin with, such water consumption in a structurally drought-stricken area can be legitimately criticized.
