Under certain conditions and on a transitional basis, the financing of gas and nuclear activities could therefore be considered sustainable or climate change mitigating (if coal is replaced by gas, for example) from 2023 onwards. The Commission justifies this decision on the grounds that renewable energies are not a sufficient source of energy to meet the growing demand for electricity.
