it would seem that fungi use this electrical “language” to exchange information about food or injury with distant parts of themselves, or with partners linked by hyphae, such as trees.

“While interesting, the interpretation as a language seems a little too enthusiastic, and would require much more research and critical hypothesis testing before seeing ‘Fungus’ on Google Translate,” tempers Dan Bebber, a member of the British Mycological Society’s Fungal Biology Research Committee.
