Every year, 59,000 tons of clothing arrive in the free zone at the port of Iquique, 1,800 km north of Santiago. Faced with this disaster Franklin Zepeda founded a company in 2018 that processes up to 40 tons of used clothing a month. Synthetic and polyester garments are separated from cotton garments and then used to manufacture insulating panels for the building industry.
