It was an Instagram account, @laviondebernard, that published the appalling carbon footprint of Bernard Arnault’s private jet. The author of this account was inspired by Jack Sweeney, a young American who published the movements of Elon Musk’s private jet on Twitter. 

The anthropologists who authored this study consider the excessive consumption of these billionaires to be problematic, “not only because it is carbon-intensive, but also because it ultimately undermines the public consensus that could support public policies aimed at reducing emissions and averting climate catastrophe”. 

They say it’s “an effective strategy to put pressure on the rich” to publicly expose their behavior on social networks. This also makes it possible to to prevent the population from imitating them. It is essential, however, that these accounts are reliable.
