The richest 1% are doing more to damage the climate than the poorest 50%, according to the latest report published by Oxfam. 
Luca Chancel, French economist and principal author of the study:
“Global income and wealth inequalities are closely linked to ecological inequalities and unequal contributions to climate change”
The scale of these inequalities suggests that climate policies should target wealthier polluters. To date, however, these policies, such as carbon taxes, have often disproportionately hit low- and middle-income groups, without changing the consumption habits of the wealthiest.
