A few months before the event, a controversy arose following the organizers’ decision to choose GoodPlanet as the beneficiary of donations. Internet users had accused the French foundation of greenwashing because of its links with Total and BNP Paribas. GoodPlanet eventually withdrew from the event. Four associations were chosen: Sea Shepherd, which defends marine life, The Sea Cleaners, which fights against ocean pollution, the League for the Protection of Birds and WWF, the World Wildlife Fund.

For the first time this year, a company was selected: Time for the Planet. It aims to create 100 more companies, spread across the world, dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Unfortunately, the not-for-profit business model is not yet “recognized”, and it doesn’t fit into the administrative boxes that would allow it to benefit from donations from this event.
