Today, cities are home to more than half the world’s population. the world’s population of over 4.2 billion. A number that is set to double by 2050, according to the World Bank, while the surface area of cities could be multiplied by 6 by 2100. New building construction and renovation are two key sectors in the ecological transition. There are manyhere are many ways to reduce CO2 emissions in the building sector: renovating thermal flats, developing low-carbon electricity production or “greening” the production of raw materials (steel, concrete, iron)… This last lever will account for almost 10% of the building sector’s greenhouse gas emissions in 2020.

In addition to GHG emissions, there is growing concern about sand resources and the fact that concrete contributes to the erosion of biodiversity. Its role in soil artificialization is such that the term “concreteization” has become part of everyday language.
