A rare generosity
Yvon Chouinard, 83, says he is relieved and liberated to have donated his company to the fight against global warming.
“Hopefully this will influence a new form of capitalism that doesn’t end up with a few rich people and a bunch of poor people,” he said in an interview with the NY Times. “We’re going to give as much money as we can to people who are actively working to save this planet”.
“This family is quite exceptional when you consider that most billionaires give away only a tiny fraction of their net worth each year,” said David Callahan, founder of the Inside Philanthropy website.
“The Earth is now our only shareholder.”
Mr. Chouinard’s powerful and inspiring message can be found on the Patagonia website.
