Agricultural activities, particularly livestock farming, waste treatment and fossil fuel industry contribute 60% of methane production. The concentration of methane in the atmosphere has more than doubled since the pre-industrial era.

Cattle breeding worldwide for meat and milk production, as well as other livestock, emit the equivalent of 3.1 billion tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere every year. If it were a country, farm animals would be the biggest producer of greenhouse gases after China and the United States.

In addition to solutions aimed at reducing emissions from cattle farming, it seems reasonable to also promote a reduction in meat consumption, given the urgency of the situation.
