The consequences of catastrophic coastal flooding due to rising sea levels are still unimaginable for the majority of the world’s one billion people living in low-lying coastal areas. The Conversation’s study does not show that we have passed a catastrophic tipping point that would irreversibly flood the planet’s coasts. The perspectives provided by this study suggest that it’s not too late to act. But we need to cut fossil fuels and emissions now, because time is running out and the water is rising faster than expected.
