How can we link fashion brands with the destruction of forests and the Amazon in particular, the lungs of humanity? It’s no longer in dispute that intensive livestock farming is responsible for deforestation worldwide. Forests are being destroyed to provide sufficient space to raise and feed millions of cattle. Stand.earth’s report shows that JBS is responsible for the disappearance of 91,000 hectares of Amazon rainforest between March 2019 and March 2021, 81% of which is illegal. Consequently, signs that sourced directly from JBS or indirectly via subcontractors, are linked to the deforestation of the Amazon rainforest. The NGO has so far identified around a hundred, including the Richemont, LVMH, H&M, Zara and Ralph Lauren groups.
