Maya Rochat creates visual montages in highly saturated colors, fusing natural motifs and abstract painting. His photographs of plants, rocks and rivers are the starting point for his experiments. She superimposes images, digitally or physically altering them and multiplying their use and meaning by playing with transparency, textures and colors. Whether artist’s books, prints or light boxes, his multi-media works also go beyond the frame to unfold in space in the form of immersive installations and video projections.
Inspired by nature and its different forms and scales, Maya Rochat engages in poetic reflection on the beauty of the surrounding world, its matter and its transformation. She also questions the place humans occupy in it, evoking not only chemical pollution, but also the visual pollution generated by the continuous flow of digital images. The artist invites the public to enter a dreamlike universe that offers a sensitive alternative to the representations of a world in crisis, which she seeks to re-enchant.
The exhibition looks back over twelve years of Maya Rochat’s artistic career, from her first works in the 2010s to her most recent project, “Poetry of the Earth” (2022). She offers a visual and sensory journey through a transdisciplinary body of work, in which photography and video play an essential role.
