Los Angeles bans oil and gas drilling within city limits

After years of complaints from local residents, the city council unanimously passed an ordinance banning all new oil extraction and ending existing operations within 20 years. Oil wells are located in almost every part of the city, Wilmington, Harbor Gateway, downtown, West LA, South LA and the northwestern San Fernando Valley, and are causing health problems for their residents.

The simulator created by Datagir and Ademe now offers a “Digital” category, which enables an estimate to be made of the CO2 emissions linked to digital activities, which have an impact equivalent to that of the air transport sector. E-mails, video streaming and videoconferencing are detailed, and the calculation can be refined using parameters such as time of use, image resolution and attachments.
