Should fast-fashion brands that claim to be ethical expand their range of sizes? Yes. However, even if all slow fashion brands were to offer plus sizes, the fact remains that most plus-size shoppers have a very different experience of style and clothing than normal-size shoppers – and as long as prejudice and discrimination against fat people exist, this will remain the case. This concept doesn’t just apply to full-size customers.
As Elizabeth says, “I think the collective goal should always be to consume less and shop better, but I think the way we look at ethical, sustainable and slow fashion needs to make room for people who have different barriers to overcome, whether it’s size, gender, disability or race.”
Perhaps one day the fashion industry will reflect on these differences, and real change will come for all.
