This Friday, independent retailers across the UK will be shutting down their websites, donating profits to charity and planting trees as part of a new campaign against the rampant consumerism encouraged by the big online retailers offering Black Friday deals.

Today, it’s possible to do the opposite of Black Friday! Initiatives like Green Friday aim to promote responsible consumption through a combination of actions and initiatives. Giving Tuesday, on the other hand, is all about generosity, and invites people to sign up to support a local or international initiative. To take part, all you have to do is help out, giving your time, money, blood, talent or know-how. The day will take place on November 30.
More and more brands are refusing to accept Black Friday, and are showing great creativity in transforming this black day into a green one: donations to associations, recycling, open days, collections…
